Charter History

In Spring of 2009, E.I.G.H.T. was founded by Cynthia Kosasih, Jenny Dara, Cindy Xie, Ying Ying Chen, Tracy Nguyen, Amy Wang, Tian Tian Sun, Annie Yuan, Paris Yang, and Thanh Nguyen at the University of Iowa. E.I.G.H.T. represents the necessary characteristics of forming and upholding a strong group as believed by the founders. (Excellence, integrity, generosity, honesty, and trust) The group became more involved with on-campus activities, especially through introducing various cultural events. About a year leader, under the leadership of Cynthia Kosash and Jenny Dara, E.I.G.H.T. became solidified as an Asian-American interest group.

The founders of E.I.G.H.T. wanted a place for members to be themselves and accepted regardless of where they came from. These ladies noticed that, although there was a lot of diversity on campus, the groups within themselves were segregated, and many international students alienated themselves or felt alienated by others. The founders wanted to form a group that allowed all members to feel a sense of belonging.

On November 18th, 2012, after years of hard work, E.I.G.H.T. has finally reached their goal of being recognized as a colony of Delta Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. With the guidance of Lillian Van, Delta Phi Lambda's fifteenth chapter was chartered by Thanh Nguyen, Jasmine Li, Vanessa Au, Miller Thammavongsa, Priscilla Boachie, Serena Zhang, and Lisa Thai.
